FRIDAY BOOK SHARING!
What are you reading today?
BOOKED. The power of words, soccer, friends, bullies, family….all of these things take us on a ride through Booked, the story of twelve year old Nick. And it is a roller coaster ride, full of twists and turns and ups and downs, as Nick deals with unexpected obstacles and questions he has to answer about himself. One of the things that I loved about this book was that it is a middle grade novel, accessible to young readers, yet tackles tough issues with heartfelt emotion. Trust me when I tell you that this novel will engage middle grade readers as well as older teenagers and adults! And if you’re a nerdy book person who loves words (like me!), you will be completely won over by Booked, with its fabulous and quirky words (Nick’s father wrote his own dictionary, and yes, there are awesome footnotes with new words and clever details courtesy of Nick). Definitely one of my favorite parts! The pacing of the novel is perfect – you’ll keep moving along as in a soccer match, waiting for the next moment with every page. Readers will also find an array of poetry (haiku, acrostics, free verse….). The power of language and poetry is present on every page. You’ll want to order your copy right away, and check out Kwame Alexander’s page and the NPR interview “How to Get Kids Hooked on Books? Use Poetry. It is a Surefire Way.” Happy reading!
